The great northwest loop-Idaho!

On Sunday morning we all packed up at the cabin and most headed to their homes. Us, along with my sister's family were heading up with my parents back to their home there. Our van decided on a scenic route taking us through Wyoming (Afton & Star Valley) so we could log a few more geocaches and add another state to our loop.
Once we got to my parents house we unpacked, relaxed and prepared some food for an extended family FHE.

Usually on the first Sunday of the month my extended family in the Shelley,ID area gather for FHE and a potluck or treats. They kindly shifted it to the 2nd Sunday so that myself, my sister and a cousin that lives in Germany that was visiting could attend. My Aunt Nancy sends out a letter after giving a rundown of the nights happenings, here's a small tidbit:
132 people if I added right.  Wow!  I am so glad that we were in Kelly’s & Courtney’s beautiful backyard and not in my house!!!!!  And NO, I did not remember all of these names.  I cheated and used the new newsletter Paul sent me.  (THANKS! PAUL)
We had plenty of food…I’m absolutely sure no one went away hungry; on the other hand, however, there was very little left over.  For a lesson, Tauna, Karen, Rachel, & Joseph gave impromptu speeches.  Tauna told us that she lives in Gross-Gerau about 40 miles west (?) of Frankfurt.  She will be teaching ½ day of 4th grade & ½ day of music.  That should keep her out of trouble.  She told us about a recent experience with the asst. principal of her last school.  He brought us a question of dress, and Tauna, knowing one of the girls he was talking about was LDS, responded indicating her awareness of LDS standards.  She thought he knew she was LDS, but he didn’t.  So, she posed the question, “How often do we make sure our words & actions indicate our beliefs?”   Karen talked about a YW lesson on testimonies.  Did Alma the Younger gain his testimony from seeing an angel?  No, he gained his testimony through the witness of the spirit.  We each have to work hard to gain and strengthen our own testimonies.  She told of the many opportunities they have for missionary work with Spencer now on his mission and Ray serving as ward mission leader…. segueing smoothly into have Ray tell an experience they’ve recently had in their ward as they did a 40 day fast (at least 1 family fasting for each of 40 days) for missionary opportunities.  Then Rachel told us a little about Ridgecrest, CA, where her family lives.  &………..other stuff, but I have to admit I must have let my mind wander. Ah, help from Cristel. Rachel talked about setting a goal to go to the temple once a month.  They are in the LA Temple District and it’s a 4 hour drive each way.  They’ve chosen to make it a family outing, with one adult going through a session while the other has the kids, then switching.  The kids love staying in hotels and see their stay in the same light---but instead of a swimming pool, there’s the temple and the visitor’s center. Their children get excited when they see the temple.  They have instilled a love for the temple in their children.  Rachel encouraged us to make temple moments for our children, even though most of live within a relatively short distance of a temple. Last was Joseph (Marvin’s oldest son) who had his farewell today and will be entering the Argentina MTC next week.  And again my mind wandered…or I’m just tired and my mind isn’t working very well?  I know I listened to both of them. I do remember the feelings of thinking this boy will be a good missionary.  Marvin sent me some comments but I couldn’t find them on his e-mail—doesn’t mean they weren’t there!
On Monday we N8, Bud and my dad did a few geocaches while we had a bird funeral (a dead bird was found in the driveway and my mom and the kids decided to give it a proper burial) and took the kids on the 4 wheeler.
Then we divided, we took my niece and the rest did some golfing and shopping while we headed to Rexburg to a fun, family friendly waterpark. The weather was beautiful and the kids had a blast!!

That evening we went to my Aunt and Uncles for dinner. My cousin Kirsten was also there with her 2 kids and another of my Aunt and Uncles came as well. We ate food, visited, roasted marshmallows and talked politics!

On Tuesday N8, my dad, Ray (my brother in law) and the kids headed out fishing. My mom, sister and went shopping! There are no pictures of the shopping adventure so fishing pictures will have to do!

That night my Aunt and Uncle came over and we played Nerts and another cousin Terry came by to visit. It was all fast and furious but so good to see so much family!!

While I was there I also took pictures of two pictures. One is of my family the other is my parents!

Family Reunion 2012-Bear Lake!!

Thursday ended up be a cool and rainy day. We did some car swapping and Karen's family and ours caravaned up to Garden City, UT in the pouring rain. Karen was in charge of organizing reunion and had found a fabulous cabin for all 35 or so of us to stay in! It was super nice, plenty of space- sleeping, hanging out and eating. I would say there were only 2 very minor downsides-no wifi and a very steep, downhill driveway. But all in all, everyone loved it!!
Everyone from my parents down were able to make it except for 2 (one nephew, Spencer, who is currently serving a mission and one niece, Erika, who is doing an internship in Japan for the summer). It's hard to summarize how awesome the reunion was and we took a lot of pictures to try to help us remember everything. So I'll break it down this way: Family time, swimming, the lake, the games, jet skiing, crafts, hiking and family pictures.

Family time: We collectively live between Southern Cali, Central Cali, Northern Cali, Arizona, Utah, Idaho and New Mexico. There are my parents, 6 sibling, 6 spouses and 22 grandkids. There was a lot a fun & visiting.
Swimming: The cabin was in located in a community that had a pool several times throughout our stay we took advantage of the pool!

The Lake: We were staying in Garden City, UT which I thought was called Bear Lake (apparently it's not!). On Friday we all loaded up and headed to North Shore and staked out our spot of beach. The beach was awesome-soft sand, shallow water for a LONG ways and boating. My dad brought down a ski boat and they tried to get some skiers up and then near the end of the day my nephew convinced an unknown family to "lend" us their water banana!! We all got LOTS of sun (and sunburn) but had a great time!

The Games: My sister planned an awesome event call the Toy Story Olympics! We were divided into 4 teams, not by family, and played relay games! Great fun!!
Jet Skiing: On Saturday a group headed back to the lake to do more skiing but had some boat trouble, like 2 hours of trying to get the boat started and it never working! So, the group ended up renting a jet ski and having a blast!
Crafts: My sister was in charge of crafts and one she decided to do was a "hands on" event! We all did our handprints on a white sheet and then our names were written by them. It will get turned into a quilt for my parents.

Hiking: The group that didn't go boating/jet skiing went on a hike. It was touted on a website as "The Switzerland of Utah". While it was very pretty, it didn't feel the need to sing Edelweiss! We did find a really cool "L" shaped tree as well as the Linderberry tree, which was 5 trees grown together.

Family Pictures: I was put in charge of getting shirts printed for the reunion. On Friday night they got passed out and everyone was told to wear them the following day for family pictures!!

Sisters & mom:

I love spending time with my family and going to these reunions really makes me wonder what it would be like if we all lived close to one another and could do more together. Would we continue to enjoy one anothers company or would we end up never getting together. But since we're not going anywhere and neither is anyone else we'll stick with our biennial family reunions and just live it up when we see each other!

4th of July

We left for our Summer Vacation, what we have named "The Great Northwest Loop" on Tuesday (July 3rd) evening after N8 finished up at the church with meetings. We made it to our hotel on the north end of Las Vegas just after 11pm and quickly went to bed knowing we would want an early start the next morning.
We were out the door of the hotel by about 8:30am or so. One of our "goals" of this trip was to find at least one geocache in each state we went to. So we pulled off in Mesquite,NV and found our first cache. if I remember correctly it was a green banana hanging in a tree in front of an old building!!
Next we headed onto our short stint in AZ (you end up being in Arizona for about 30 miles or so!) and N8 led me off the freeway and the kids jumped out and found an X marks the spot, super easy find, cache. That 2 states down!!
We kept on our way and ended up having lunch in Filmore,UT at a Carl's Jr. There happened to be a cache in the parking lot, so....N8 and the kids logged a cache in UT! Then again in Springville,UT in a gas station parking lot.
We did eventually make it to that days destination-Eagle Mountain, UT and my sister and brother in laws house, Carol, Bruce & Family!! My other sister Karen and her family also stayed there that night. We were super excited to spend the afternoon and evening visiting with them since they had recently moved to UT and the had a brand new baby (and 2 year old) we had not met!!
The older cousins took the younger ones on a bike ride!
We decided after dinner to get some ice cream!
Then some 4th of July fireworks and glow sticks!

We headed out in the morning to our next destination, Bear Lake and the family reunion!!
