A whirlwind Saturday...

Ever since Bud turned 8 there has been a Saturday in December that I see on the calendar and in the back of my mind dread! It's a Saturday VERY full of Cub Scout stuff!
We began our morning at the annual Christmas Parade. We dropped Bud off behind Home Depot with the other Cub Scouts and then found our spot on the road to watch. I always forget how long it takes for the parade to make it's way around to the near end. But we had Shar and Justin sitting with us so it was nice to visit:
We got to come home for about 45 minutes before we were off to pack meeting. Bud got his first activity badge for Webelos- the Outdoors man.
Then we were off to the push cart races. Luckily they hold them right in the church parking lot so we didn't have far to go!! Also Emma & Mo got to participate which was fun for them as well!
They also did a hammer throw (I know 8-10 year old boys throwing hammers for fun!! Seriously!)
Do you think she was pleased with their race?!

Mo has been asking to go bowling for a long time and I told he we could go for his birthday. This was the only day that seemed to work so we were off to go bowling!!

Henry helped me with most of my turns :) At least that's my excuse for my score!!

We ended the day with an annual date nights at a friends home. Great food, a fun game and loads of laughs!!
I tried this recipe (and one with cheese and onions, but I didn't really care for it!). This is super yummy!

Moving on up...

Benjamin loves cub scouts and is making great progress. This past Friday he got his bear (and this week starts going to Weblos!). I was still at Emma's soccer game so N8 got pinned!

Crazy Cub Scout Day

Saturday was Crazy Cub Scout day!! It began with us dropping Bud off at 9:30am for the annual city Christmas Parade. The whole district is together and the boys walk, ride bike or sit on the float. this year Bud was right up front so we could get a picture of him walking along.

Mo, Emma and I walked directly from the parade over to McDonalds for a birthday lunch "Birthday Party" for Mo. Our timing was a little off. We estimated the parade finishing earlier and also did not plan on the entire city stopping at McD's after the parade! Mo had a great time and hopefully so did his friends. Everyone got a Happy Meal,we opened some gifts and they played on the playland.
After lunch we came home for a total of about 5 minutes before N8 took Bud and Emma over to the church for the annual Cub Scout push cart races. I forgot to send Bud's bike helmet so I left right after to bring it and left Mo to enjoy the races.
Henry and I did some quick grocery shopping and a breathing treatment then headed back over to the church for a Cub Scout Pack Meeting.

As we drove home N8 and I discussed our lack of planning for Christmas cards. As we pulled in everyone ran in and changed into a solid colored shirt and then we were off to check out some trains parked in the desert. We hoped to make it out quick enough for some light to take some family pictures that we could use for a Christmas card.

It was a very full, but fun day!!

Some Summer Happenings...

Here are a few things I haven't blogged yet for the summer:

Bud attended a Cub Scout Twilight Camp. He LOVED it and I hope they do it again next summer.

We've had friends over multiple times. On one occasion friends, Katie and Daniel, brought Just Dance Kids.

This week Bud and Emma had swimming lessons. They're still not swimming, but I would say that Emma has improved quite a bit. But today Bud even went down the slide and off the diving board.

We're through almost a month of summer vacation, but the best is yet to come. New York, Karen & Bridget visit & Idaho are still yet to come!

Pinewood Derby...

Friday night was our first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. I see a lot of those in our future! Our ward allowed siblings to participate so we (that we should be and I for Rachel) made 3 cars. Using a hand coping saw and some spray paint we got them done and the kids had a great time.

A line up of some of the cars being entered:

A car waiting to be eaten! (Becky, Bud's den leader made this, she's awesome!)

The 3 hooligans:

I told N8 that I might just have to send he and Bud to the next pack meeting. The organized chaos is something I have a hard time with. I'm grateful for the wonderful leaders that serve faithfully and am even more grateful that I am not one of those leaders!!

More cub scouts...

This past Friday was pack meeting. Bud continues to LOVE cub scouts, which is great. This pack meeting was "Night at the Museum" themed with an emphasis on Amelia Earhart. They made paper airplanes and got their award flown to them in paper airplanes. For refreshments we had sugar cookies that they painted. The kids had a great time.

In other family goings on- this is how you'll find N8 and the kids before bed most nights!

They love Mario Kart!

I've been doing a little more crafting. Most recently I made these:

I've been posting them over on my craft blog: ldscraftproject.com come check it out!

Oh the insanity...

Today was a CRAZY busy day. Here's the breakdown:
  • 8am-9:15am clean the church building
  • 9:30am Benjamin report in cub scout uniform for Christmas Parade
  • 10am-11:30am Christmas Parade
  • 1pm-3pm Cub Scout push cart races
  • 3pm-4pm Bake dessert for upcoming Ward Christmas Party
  • 2pm-4pm Extend Youth Planning Meeting
  • 4pm-5:30pm Birthday Party (for Benjamin to attend)
  • 6pm-8pm Ward Christmas Party
That was our day today. It's done and boy am I glad!! Now onto Sunday, which will not be any less crazy, but at least it will have some time where I sit down!

Here's the float that Bud rode on through the parade. If you look closely you can see part of his head :)

Here are some of the best shots from the Cub Scout Push Cart races. Bud had a great time!

Look closely and you can see the hammer in midair! Yes, they were letting 8 year old boys throw hammers!!

December is a crazy month and I know as our children get older it will just get more crazy. This next weekend we plan on going down to LA to the temple, enjoying the lights, temple work and family time. I just need to continue to remind myself that the hustle and bustle of the month cannot be overshadowed by the reason we celebrate at this time of the year.

Elder Uchtdorf said in this months Ensign:
The Christmas season is wonderful in many ways. It is a season of charitable acts of kindness and brotherly love. It is a season of being more reflective about our own lives and about the many blessings that are ours. It is a season of forgiving and being forgiven. It is a season to enjoy the music and lights, parties and presents. But the glitter of the season should never dim our sight and prevent us from truly seeing the Prince of Peace in His majesty.
