Oh crap...

Apparently this a phrase that gets said in our house. I never realized that I said or that N8 said it. But then one day when Emma was pitching a fit, I hear....Oh crap... over and over an over!! Well after I tried not to totally bust up laughing, I promptly told her this is not a word that we use. It hasn't helped and she thinks it's just like any other word. Today right before sacrament meeting started my cousin was holding her and our it comes... oh my goodness. Guess maybe that's the new phrase that needs to be adopted in our house!

This week there is of course lots to get done:
  1. laundry (seriously, is it ever done!!)
  2. Organizing our guest room (it's amazing what preparing for guests does to you)
  3. Tape the RS vinyl projects
  4. Work on a flyer for the RS birthday party
  5. Decide on and start my RS lesson for March (any topic ideas would be welcome)
We didn't sit down and watch of the President Hinckley's funeral. Funerals are something I try and avoid. But I did switch to it and see some of President Monson's remarks. During that he said one of my favorite scriptures. It also happens to be one of my mom's favorites and it was my Grandma's favorite:

3 John 1:4 I have no greater ajoy than to hear that my bchildren cwalk in truth.

Let's begin a new week

I have to start with this fun picture. Our first photographed smile of Matthew!! He's a keeper!

So, It's a new week with lots to do. Thankfully N8 got home late Friday night. Just in time. Our kids would not have made it through the weekend if it were just me!! On Saturday N8 took Bud and Emma up to play in the snow. All three of them had a blast! I enjoyed browsing the clearance racks at Mervyns.

Then Saturday night N8 and I went to our favorite little Mexican joint and I enjoyed my standard chicken taco salad, to bad I can't eat their everyday! After dinner we knew we couldn't go home yet, but seriously there is nothing to do in Ridgecrest!! So, we went to Home Depot and checked out all the things we can't afford! Then when we still hadn't used up all of our babysitter time, we got smoothies at Juice it Up! It's amazing what a couple of hours away from your kids will do for a person! I need that time, so I will remember how much I love them!

Sunday was a step out of the normal! It rained!! Ok, it rained on Saturday and some of Friday too, but it wasn't until Sunday that it actually smelled like rain to me. Growing up in Phoenix, the smell of rain always made me sick. I think it was because it made it smell smoggy! Luckily Ridgecrest is smog-free, and rain smells fresh and clean. We have a new Gospel Doctrine teacher this new year and I'm feeling like I'm getting a lot more out of the lessons. I enjoy his style of teaching. Plus we had a sub in RS and I really enjoyed her as well.

So this week needs to be very productive. I feel better when I have a productive week. So here some of the plan.
  • Finish chessboards
  • Start, finsh and mail Andrea's YW vinyl order
  • Take a load of stuff to Good Will
  • Clean my bathrooms
  • Organize Matthew's clothes
  • Vacuum and dust
  • Make February's meal calendar
  • Research items for RS birthday
  • Come up with RS lesson topic (feel free to share any ideas!!)
  • Enjoy my family!

Tagged!

What were you doing 10 years ago?
Hmmm, in January of 1998, I was in my 2nd semester at BYU. I was over my homesickness, but still hadn't quite figured out how to study! I just started the most disgusting job (Morris Center dishwasher) and was figuring our how to live in cold country!

5 things on my list today:
1. RS Board Meeting
2. Cut and weed chess boards for cub scouts
3. Vacuum
4. Make copies of February RS Newsletter
5. No kill my children!!

5 snacks that I enjoy:
1. M&M's
2. Potato Chips (sour cream and onion preferably!)
3. Root beer barrels
4. Skittles
5. Red Licorice

3 bad habits:
1. Staying up too late!! (it's all in a quest for sanity!!)
2. Skipping breakfast
3. Dr. Pepper!!!

If I were suddenly a billionaire:
I would pay off my house and car. Then go on a very long vacation with N8, preferably a cruise! After coming home, I would start plans on building my dream home. Somewhere in their I would donate a large sum to the Perpetual Education Fund and take a trip to Peru.

5 places I've lived:
1. Phoenix, AZ
2. Provo, UT
3. Springville, UT
4. Ridgecrest, CA
5. I've only lived 4 places, but a few years back we almost moved to Alaska!!

5 jobs I've had:
1. Newspaper route
2. Baskin Robbins
3. Best Western reservation operator
4. Daycare provider
5. Substitute teacher

5 things people don't know about me:
1. I enjoy techno music!
2. I watched "Hell's Kitchen" and enjoyed it!
3. After having children I now have to sleep with a body pillow? I'm not sure why though?
4. I would love to own a store someday
5. I wanted to be a nurse when I was little, but now can't stand the sight of blood!

Anyone that reads this, consider yourself tagged!!

The case of the missing remote....

Man, this is going to drive N8 and I nuts!!! Our old (cheap!) DVD player was having issues, so we treated ourselves to a new (also cheap!) DVD player for Christmas. We got it installed and began enjoying DVD watching. So, an annoying aspect of DVD's are all of the previews, but that's also an advantage. Usually you can just press MENU and skip right past all of those annoying things!! But, when you don't have a remote, there's no skipping, fast forwarding, pausing, menu, etc!! We've searched high and low, and low and high, with no results. N8's convinced Emma tossed it in the garbage. I'm convinced is vanished into thin air! Unfortunately, we've about decided that we're going to buy a new DVD player. The only thing holding us back-- knowing that as soon as we buy a new one, we'll find the remote!!!

Overcoming...

ad·dic·tion[uh-dik-shuhn] –noun the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.
So in life and throughout society many individuals have addictions to things. Addiction and self discipline have been on my mind lately.
self-dis·ci·pline [self-dis-uh-plin, self-] –noun discipline and training of oneself, usually for improvement: Acquiring the habit of promptness requires self-discipline.

I think I have a few addictions. Luckily none of them could cause me to be put in jail and none are life threatening. But still if it would cause me severe trauma, I probably shouldn't be doing it!!

  1. Dr Pepper, Oh, how I love Dr Pepper and I think trauma would be a good word to use if I had to stop drinking it!!
  2. Crafting, could this really be an addiction??? Well it might be a stretch, but I think I would be extremely sad if I couldn't do my crafty things. Here's my latest creation: Binky clips!!
  3. Lastly, (at least for now!) is chocolate. I can take chocolate in any way shape or form. I just can't get enough!! (I really wanted to insert the video of Depeche Mode's music video here! But couldn't figure out how. So, here a link for your enjoyment!)
So, What's the point of all of this?? Ok, really I'm asking myself the same question. But I have realized that I need more self disipline and maybe through 2008 I should try to overcome some of my not so good addictions (Dr Pepper and maybe reality TV should be added to the list!) and replace them with better habits like: scripture study, playing games with my children and exercise. We'll see how it goes!

A sigh of relief, for a moment....

So, I hadn't realized how long it had been since my last post. Geeze, I'm behind. But that seems to be my life story of late!! Who knew have a 3rd child could through things off this much! Ok, I knew, but wasn't prepared. A few things that have made like easier though: school has started again for Bud and our weekly activities (playgroup for Emma and music makers) begin again this week. My kids need social interaction. They must have inherited this need from their daddy. I have a need to get out of the house everyday (usually to run errands, etc) but they function much better if they have some sort of social interaction each day. Unfortunately, their mommy (me!) isn't very good at making sure that happens.

So, I had a sigh of relief on Monday morning when Bud left for school for the day. But it only lasted for a moment before I realized what I still had in store for me this week! But we're now 2 days in and I'm still surviving. I just finished up dishes from dinner. We had the missionaries tonight. I hadn't signed up for quite a while because it seemed like I could never find a day that N8 was in town. All 5 loads of laundry from yesterday are folded and I swept and swiffered the floor today (of course we had rice with dinner, so I need to sweep all of that up again!). Now, just a little more cleaning before I host our first enrichment recipe share group at my house on Thursday. I just have to remind myself that it's a great excuse to clean my house.

So, here's to a new week, a new year and new things....
